BPW / FL Public Policy Platform Item 1: Equality for All

BPW / FL Public Policy Platform Item 1: Equality for All

Recently our TBT has had articles by State Public Policy Chair, Kristin Smith, and from our Local Organization (LO) President, Michele Cavallo, related to our Public Policy Platform.  BPW/FL leadership also learned during the Strategic Planning process that many BPW members did not know, before participating in the process, that we had a Public Policy Platform, so I thought this would be a good time to provide additional information about the Platform.  I will, over the next couple of months, provide the Platform Item and, space permitting, some of the BPW/FL Talking Points, but for right now I just wanted to make sure that everyone in our LO knows exactly what items we support and to include a link to the Public Policy Platform page on the BPW/FL website Public Policy Platform – Florida Federation of Business & Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc. (bpwfl.org), so that you can look at the language and talking points for each of our Public Policy Platform items, if you don’t want to wait on me.

Item 1 Equality for All; Item 2: Economic Equity, Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency; Item 3: Safe Workplace; Item 4: Health Care; Item 5: Environment

In Item 1:  Equality for All – BPW/FL members acknowledge the fundamental equality of all persons and are devoted to the defense of their inherent dignity. We believe in fairness and inclusion so that all have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. We protect our communities and our liberties, ensuring peace, justice, freedom, and humanity. We believe that the rights of women require constant vigilance and a thorough examination of laws to eliminate those that harm women disproportionately. Therefore, BPW/FL supports legislation that calls for equality for all, including but not limited to, passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, which states: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be abridged or denied by the United States or by any state on account of sex.”
