15 Aug Pay Equity in Sports
This past spring, the US Women’s Soccer team took a significant stand for pay equity by filing a wage discrimination lawsuit against US Soccer. Their actions brought the discussion to a new arena: sports fans. With the ever growing popularity of women’s soccer in the US, the team’s action brought to light the overwhelming disparity between the treatment of male and female athletes world wide in soccer and other sports as well. As member of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup winning team and current coach at Eckerd College, Danielle Fotopoulous will speak to BPW and offer her insights on the impact this is having throughout the soccer community.
About our speaker: Danielle Ruth Garrett Fotopoulos is a former American college, professional and international soccer player. Fotopoulos holds the all-time National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I records for goals and points, and was a member of the University of Florida team that won the 1998 NCAA women’s soccer championship, and also the United States national team that won the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She is currently head coach of the Eckerd College Woman’s Soccer team in Saint Petersburg, Florida.
