07 Dec Philanthropy Update 12-7-21: Holiday Book Drive
We would like to collect books to help support the mission of the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum. As stated on their website, their mission is two-fold:
1) To preserve, present, and interpret African American history and to engage a broad and diverse audience through these activities.
2) To promote an understanding among various groups that comprise the St. Petersburg community to enhance our ability as a society to respect, value diversity, and foster equal rights and social justice.
We learned that every holiday season, the museum holds a book drive to provide books to children in the community. We will be collecting books on diversity. Books that fit the mission to “enhance our ability as a society to respect, value diversity, and foster equal rights and social justice.”
You can bring books with you to the luncheon this Thursday, Dec 2nd at 400 Beach. Or, you can call Lily Alcott our Philanthropy Chair and she will make arrangements to collect your books and get them delivered to the museum before their book drive on December 16th. If you are looking for guidance on books that might fit the theme or that you may never have heard of, consult with the folks at culturedbooks.org or visit their facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/culturedbooks/ a local literacy advocacy non profit.
